SHANGHAI, June 21 (Xinhua) -- U.S. carmaker Tesla on Friday inked a deal with Chinese partners to build a grid-side energy storage station in Shanghai using its Megapack energy-storage batteries.
Tesla''s energy storage plant in Shanghai''s Lin-gang Special Area commenced operation on Feb 11, as the assembly line started the production of the first Megapack unit. The Megapack, which is an advanced battery system designed for large-scale energy projects, can store more than 3,900 kilowatt-hours of electricity in a single unit.
In 1980, Shanghai Power Station Auxiliary Equipment Works was established to meet the needs of specialized production. In April 2007, the company has been renamed as Shanghai Electric Power Generation Equipment Co., Ltd. Power Station Auxiliary Equipment Plant (SAP) after Shanghai Electric Power Generation Group and Siemens formed a joint venture.
