The Ethiopia Solar Energy Development Association (ESEDA) is an independent non-profit association dedicated to facilitating the growth and development of the solar energy business in Ethiopia. ESEDA (previously SEDA-E) was established in September 2010 by dedicated solar energy market stakeholders in Ethiopia.
Within the emerging Ethiopian PURE market, solar water pumps (SWPs) are the leading PURE technology and are sold by 90% of PURE businesses. SWPs and other solar irrigation equipment show significant market potential, with studies indicating that they can irrigate 6,800 hectares and service over one million farmers.
Governmental and non-governmental organizations (NGOs) are the primary customers of most PURE suppliers in Ethiopia. SWPs are the leading PURE technology type in the Ethiopian market, with these being sold by 90% of the businesses surveyed.
Market Assessment for the Of-grid Facility With most of Ethiopia’s 117 million population working in the agriculture sector and only 10% of its land irrigated, there is a large potential in the market for the use of SWPs.
