The plant is developed by Enel. Enel through EGBP has started operating its Lapa solar park, which is the biggest solar power project operation in Brazil at present. The plant is situated in Bom Jesus da Lapa, in the north-eastern state of Bahia. Lapa project is made up of 2 plants: Lapa- with an installed capacity of 78 megawatts.
According to the Brazilian Energy Balance Summary Report 2024 issued by the EPE, the internal energy supply is divided between: Oil and its derivatives: 35.1%. Sugar cane biomass: 16.9%. Natural gas: 9.6%. Hydraulic energy: 12.1%. Coal: 4.4%. Firewood and Charcoal: 8.6%. Black liquor and other renewables: 7.2%. Wind power: 2.6%. Solar power: 1.7%.
Some solar power plants in Brazil include the one in Ribeira do Piaui, which has an installed capacity of 292 MW and an area of 690 hectares. In Ribeira do Piaui and Bahia, there are solar power plants with installed capacities of 292 MW (Ribeira do Piaui) and 291 MW (Ituverava Solar Park), respectively, and both are supported by over 850,000 PV panels.
